The source that I selected to look into and break down is an article on Historical roots of implicit bias in slavery. I selected this document because it provides the reader with important insight on the locations on where slavery was most prominent and how that data relates to racial inequalities in modern society. This article specifically focuses on the period leading up to the Civil War and the aftermath of slavery's abolition in 1865. This information is absolutely related to my specific category of slavery that I am researching, that being the historical analysis of slavery in and surrounding the Texas area, what this information provides is important insight on the locational effect on slavery in Texas and the notorious South. The article looks into implicit bias and provides the reader with statistics on locations where slavery was most common and how relatives of those slaves still live in those areas and just how prominent those racial inequalities are still with a large portion of those certain locations being ‘pro-white’ communities. The variables that I selected to look at are taken from table one in the document which depicts inequalities from the slave community and white respondents, the data starts in 1860 and goes through 2010. While transferring that data from a table to a google spreadsheet, was much easier then analyzing and transcribing a text document because it essentially is rooted from some sort of spreadsheet which made the information, easy to read, and accessible. I think this information is important to look into because it breaks down tuff data which sheds light on some of the darkest days and places in American History. After completing the Google spreadsheets assignment, while transcribing the information to a dataset the practice was fairly routine, the Airtable linked to my spreadsheet and organized it in a much more clear sense furthering the original table to its now, its easiest reading and comprehensible form. Below are tables from first the google spreadsheet then the transferred data to the Airtable.
